Dr. H. E. Cardin

/files/Departments/Leadership Development/Images/hecardin-jan07-2_Resized_100x134.jpgThe writers of Proverbs tell people that every word of God is flawless.  Human wisdom can’t even come close to the incredible illumination that comes from God’s word.  Are you bored with the Bible?  Do you find it dull and inapplicable to your life?  This workshop will help you discover that God provides us with a refuge, a rule of instruction for living our lives, a love letter, and an instrument for touching the most private aspects of our lives—all packaged in pages of paper and ink.  This workshop will inspire you to fall in love with God’s word.

Music is a very powerful aspect of today’s teen culture.  Many Christian young people listen to secular music on a regular basis.  Many teens are unaware of the social and spiritual influence some secular music has on the mind and behavior.  This workshop will discuss the pros and cons of a steady diet of secular music and give you tools to filter what you hear through the Word and Spirit of God.

Spread the Word! – Le Bateau

Jason & Casey Vernon

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/jason casey vernon.JPGJesus calls us to share our faith with everyone.  For many that conjure up images of rejection, teasing, labeling and, in many cases getting ostracized.  In today’s culture you may be called intolerant or bigoted by telling others that Jesus is the only way to salvation and that His love can save people from their sins.  This workshop will help you deal with these legitimate feelings.  It will also show you “hands-on” approach to witnessing and give you an opportunity to “practice” witnessing.  This class will also demonstrate that the greatest witness to the love of Jesus is the life you live more than the words you speak.

Living in Babylon - Brigade

Jeffrey Jones

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/JeffJones..jpgFree flowing alcohol, open and perverse sexuality, promiscuity, godless society and failing integrity—this is a description of the Babylonian culture in Daniel’s day.  It sounds very much like our society today and then some.  This workshop takes a look at how Daniel, a teenager, handled the pressures of his day and the examples he left us of what our response should be today.

Am I the Only One? - Sterlings 1

Chucky Chandler

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/Chucky 2.JPGYou are the only young person or one of two or three in your church.  You feel alone, isolated.  It seems like the entire burden, not to mention all the eyes, are on you.  What do you do?  How do you survive?  This workshop will do more than encourage you.  It will give you tools to survive and thrive when you are one of two or three (maybe five when everyone shows up) in your youth group.

Built to Last – Grand Ballroom 4

Adam Jones

Many young people find it difficult to incorporate their relationship with Jesus into their everyday life.  When people use their time and talents for selfish reasons, they don’t last.  People who are “built to last” keep their eyes on serving God at all times, no matter what they’re doing.  This workshop will give you opportunity to pray about and dedicate different areas of your life to God.  Areas like, appearance/body; money/work; grades/intelligence; entertainment; fame/popularity; spiritual life, etc.  If you struggle to surrender every area of your life to God, this session is for you.

Breaking Free - Rivers

Mark Hobson

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/YLTC/MarkHobson004.jpgDo you or someone you know struggle with bad habits, drugs or alcohol addiction or a sinful behavior, such as pornography, sexual bondage, cutting, etc. from which you cannot break free?  In order to fly free in Christ, you must first break free from those things that keep you earthbound. This workshop will give you tools to unleash a sin-hating attitude and take immediate action to fly free.

Going for the Gold - Charters

Jason Sample

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/Jason Sample.jpgThe word “discipline” doesn’t usually cause people to shout for joy.  Discipline is usually associated with pain and suffering.  There are disciplines that are joyful and worthwhile—spiritual disciplines.  Do you have a desire to get closer to God?  Are you ready to move beyond reading a verse a day and saying a prayer on the fly—if you remember?  Do you want to move beyond frustration in your prayer life and find power and intimacy in the presence of God?  This workshop will give examples of spiritual disciplines that are real, honest and will lead you to the heart of God.

Paying For College – Sterlings 2 & 3

Jan Couch

/files/Departments/Stewardship/Images/jan2.jpgIt is harder to do well with our money when we start off poorly.  This workshop will help you understand the challenge of college financing, the long term impact of school loans, the power of good or poor credit scores, the responsibility of credit cards, and the secret of being financially free at any age. Money is not the root of all evil. Ecclesiastes 10:19 “but money answereth all things.” Learn how money works.  If you don’t know how money works, what future is there in working for money? Winning at money is 80% behavioral and 20% knowledge.  A good education and good earning ability will not be enough if you don’t understand and apply basic principles of personal finance.

/files/Departments/Leadership Development/Images/hecardin-jan07-2_Resized_100x134.jpg

Prayer is an essential part of the Christian life!  We all need to be encouraged to talk—and to listen—to God.  Despite the importance of prayer, many young people spend very little time doing it, for a number of reasons.  Maybe they don’t know how to pray or what to ask for, or doubt if God even listens.  This workshop will discuss prayer, its role in Christian growth, and how it brings people closer to God.  You will be given practical tools to help you develop and maintain an intimate and power prayer life.

Jason & Casey Vernon

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/jason casey vernon.JPG

Godly living is overlooked in today’s society, even though it is an essential Christian teaching.  This workshop will give you a look at what goodliness is and how you can strive for it in your life.  This workshop will teach you to strive for godly living by:  seeking and following godly advice; keeping godly friends; thinking/meditating on God through His word and prayer; getting to know God by trusting Him; and choosing to go God’s way.  Godliness results when we practice these steps.

Saving Samson – Le Bateau

Jeffrey Jones

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/JeffJones..jpgSamson was set aside from birth for God’s purpose. God’s favor was clearly on him.  Yet he turned his back on his calling and openly rejected the things of God.  Yet God still used him.  This workshop will discuss the issue of a generation who has the favor and blessings of God, but who seemingly have rejected or turned their back on their calling.  Is there hope for the young person who has turned his back on God?  Is there a way back?  This class will explore the implications of “saving Samson”—the young person who is anointed, used of God, but who disobeys the word and will of God.

Ron Scotton

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/Ron and Gladys.jpg

Don’t Be Used, Abused or Confused – Grand Ballroom 3

Mark Hobson

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/YLTC/MarkHobson004.jpg

Sexual purity in a sex-saturated world can be difficult to achieve.  Yet the Lord commands us to be sexually pure in thought and in deed.  The whole sex issue can be really confusing at times.  So many mixed messages and the temptation for premarital sex can be brutal.  It’s easy to give in and be used, abused or confused because of those mixed messages.  This interactive workshop will look closely at the reasons to stay away from the danger and give you tools to do just that.

Friends – Kings Garden South

Adam Jones

Friendship is at the heart and soul of the teenage years.  Everyone wants to be accepted, fit in and belong to a social circle of friends.  This worship will address the issue of friendship—how do you choose your friend?  How do you set friendship criteria?  Who is the primary influencer in the friendship group and how does that influence affect the group—positively or negatively? Is there a time when you should end a friendship?  This workshop will address these issues and much more!

How You Gonna Pay For that – Sterlings 2 & 3

Jan Couch

/files/Departments/Stewardship/Images/jan2.jpg

A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things Ecclesiastes 10:20. If you don’t know how money works, what future is there in working for money?  Know money before there is no money.  In the real world money talks, it says bye-bye. There is a distinct advantage to understanding the five most common financial mistakes before we make them.

Re-Establishing Your Stance – Brigade

Cathy Payne

/files/Departments/Womens/Images/CathyPayne.jpgWhat happens when we are so busy in our service and ministry for the Lord, that we miss the warning of attack and return home to find the enemy has invaded our territory, taken our family and friends captive, and destroyed our dreams for the future? 1 Samuel 30 records David’s return to Ziglag to find the burned out ruins of his home and discover the enemy’s capture of his family and the families of his men.  David’s busyness in service almost caused him to abort or miscarry God’s destiny for him, nearly costing him his family, and even threatening his life. Overcome by the enemy’s attack, David had to deal with failure and the choice of recovery—discovering how to get back up. This workshop will examine the challenges of overcoming disappointment while creatively probing some of the opportunities to re-establish our stance in priorities in service and ministry.

Every person has been given a big dream to pursue.  You may not be able to describe it.  Some of you may have forgotten it.  Some may no longer even believe in it.  But it is still there.  God places a dream-a passion in all of us.  This workshop will help you discover that dream and give you the tools to pursue those dreams and be all that God has created you to be.

Don’t Be A Fool Keep Your Cool – Grand Ballroom 4

Morais Cassell

/files/Departments/Youth Ministries/Images/Conference/Morais Cassell.JPG

Anger is a powerful emotion and a difficult one to handle, especially for teenagers.  It is said that “anger, like fire, finally dies out—but not before leaving a path of destruction.”  Most young people don’t know how to deal with anger.  The Bible tells us to “be angry and do not sin.”  Is that possible? The suggestion is that it is okay to be angry.  This workshop will discuss ways anger manifests itself, identify cause and effect of anger, and talk about healthy solutions for handling anger.
