Advancing in the Birthplace of Moses
The Holy Spirit is opening amazing doors of opportunity for the advance of gospel ministry in the land best known for pyramids and pharaohs. Brother Samir Shehata Rizk, our national overseer, is rejoicing in the demonstration of God’s grace on the work in his nation. The Mediterranean Sea was the site of a recent early morning baptismal service in which 10 precious souls followed the Lord in water baptism. In Egypt it is difficult to establish new churches legally but they are able to plant churches by starting social societies. The Church has received permission from the Egyptian government to be a mother social society and open social societies anywhere in the country.
A team of children’s ministers led by Kathy Creasy, International Director of Children’s Ministry, traveled to Port Said, Egypt for the Egypt’s first International Institute of Children’s Ministry. The team was able to minister during the national convention and God poured out his Spirit in wonderful ways. The maturing of leadership is evident in Egypt as seven ministers were ordained during the convention. A year ago the Church in Egypt launched a website (www.cogopeg.com) and since then they have had people visit the site from more than 19 nations including China, Israel, Canada, United Kingdom, Jordan, Brazil, and Malaysia. The national office is publishing a White Wing Messenger magazine in Arabic every two months, along with a children’s booklet called the Still Small Voice. Brother Samir is grateful for God’s favor on the work: “We thank our God for all these things that he doing with us, and we trust that he will continue his work for the Church of God of Prophecy in Egypt. Every year we are seeing many good things…in the church, we thank God because he is continuing his work in his church.”
