A Look Back

The First Assembly held on January 26, 27, 1906 went on record to place Sunday School as a significant ministry priority in the minds of the 21 delegates gathered in the home of J. C. Murphy in Cherokee county, North Carolina. The Assembly urged and advised every local congregation to have a weekly Sunday school "to teach the children to reverence God's Word, the house appointed for worship, and to elevate the morals of a community." They recognized the usefulness of Sunday school not only for teaching the Bible but also as a church planting strategy. God has signally blessed Sunday school for over 100 years, using it as vehicle for reaching, winning, teaching and caring for believers in Christ.
