It’s been almost four days since the ground shook, burying people, reducing homes to rubble, and
displacing thousands in the South American nation of Peru. The latest communication from Bishop Miguel Mojica, General Presbyter of South America, details the devastation and its impact on our churches and members in Peru.
Church in Cerro Azul (Pastor Carlos Alberto Dioses)
The building and the parsonage were completely destroyed. Of the 52 members a number lost their homes and others lost everything they owned.
Church in Chincha (Pastor Flor de Maria Sisniegas)
The building and parsonage here were also destroyed. Many members and non-members in this town lost their homes and some are sleeping in the streets.
Church in Imperial Canete (Pastor Hector Arellano Medina)
The three-story building sustained damage with cracks in many places.
Church in Pisco San Clemente (Pastor Lucio Cesar Huaman)
Damage was extensive with both the building and the parsonage destroyed. Many of the 85 members have lost their homes with all their possessions and are sleeping in the streets.
Brother Alvino, the national overseer of Peru, has not been able to make contact with the church in El Campo de Sierra Chocoro or the misión in Ica because of the lack of electricity and telephone service in those areas.
