The office of the General Overseer is recognized within the Church of God of Prophecy as one that provides, to the membership in general and the leadership in particular, God-given direction to accomplish the Great Commission.  The General Overseer, selected by and accountable to the General Assembly, should have freedom to exercise his spiritual giftedness and realize the potential of ministering as the Holy Spirit directs.  His selection is in accordance with the one-accord principle and he is responsible, in conjunction with the General Presbyters, to carry out the following functions:

 

Inspirational – Short term and Long term Planning:

  • World outreach evangelism
  • Representation among others involved in the kingdom of God
  • Leadership development
  • Special events/meetings, including: General Assembly, Presbytery meetings, etc.

 

Administrative and Executive Duties

  • Appointment of general and area leadership
  • Establishment of ordination and licensure requirements and procedures in conjunction with the General Presbytery; credentialing and ministerial discipline
  • International Offices committees – serve as ex-officio member  
  • Stewardship – international budget and planning
  • Communication – publishing and mass media
  • Representation for the General Assembly in legal matters
  • Development of plans for infrastructure to meet the changing needs of the body
  • Management and implementation of infrastructural changes

 

Oversight of the Ministry:

  • Pastoral oversight
  • Discipline
  • Counseling
  • Education
  • Accountability for General Oversight and Implementation of General Assembly Recommendations
  • To General Assembly through the Administrative Committee
  • To International Presbytery through spiritual recognition/confirmation
